Hello

I'm Kaushik Goswami. The Founder of CHESTA and also the Chief Mentor here. Let me introduce you to my story so far.

Born into a middle-class family in 1984 at Bankura. My Father was from a nearby village and my Mother was from the town. Father shifted to Asansol due to his transfer, he was in SBI as a Clerk. My sister joined us soon. I completed my schooling at Asansol.

My life got a sudden jerk when I left my home after the 12th and was admitted to a college at Bankura. It was like exploring my roots. The hostel where I stayed for those three years literally life shaped my life. The Mumma's boy was introduced to self-dependency. My mental age increased much faster than my physical age. The period was full of life lessons. Zoology (H) was completed with not a bad score. But life after that was uncertain and full of frustration. Spent a year thinking that what should I pursue now. Few friends were applying for an MBA degree. I followed them. Completed the course. Got campus placement in a reputed pharma company. Within a year realized that I am not that street-smart guy suitable for sales jobs. Left it. Started preparing for Govt. jobs. I was 25 at that time. I knew that it was late but I was honest to myself that I will give a genuine effort. After two challenging years, got 3 Govt jobs.

  1. RRB Goods Guard 2009 (Kolkata): Can never forget the feeling of finding my name in the PDF. It was my Government job. It was 10 o’clock at night. Got 6th rank and got Eastern Railway. The Appointment Letter came. But did not join.

  2. SSC CGL 2011 (Auditor in CAG): The result came on the very next day of getting my first job, at 4 o’clock in the morning. Got Tamil Nadu state due to poor rank. Literally 2 jobs within 6 hrs. Life is so kind sometimes.

  3. WB PSC Miscellaneous 2009 (Consumer Welfare Officer): Got 7th rank. It was the result I was waiting for. But life had other plans. The appointment letter got delayed and I had to join the post of Auditor.

Chennai was another phase of my life that shaped my character. New place, new culture, new food habits, a new language. So many things were new to me. I always felt proud of working in the Central Government Department. Initially, I liked everything so much that I turned down the offer of appointment to the CWO post. I was a happy bunny enjoying my bachelorhood. Learning the job of a Government clerk in a classic way.

Then again life took a sharp turn. after working for two years I realized that we need a social life too. There, it was impossible to get a transfer back to my home state. Hence, another round of struggle started. This time, I had to manage my office and boss (not so kind) too.

Initially, I thought that WBCS is the only option left. But I needed some sort of attachment to a study environment. I joined an IAS Coaching there in Chennai. Again started falling in love with studies. This time, with more depth. Appeared in 2014 UPSC CSE and cleared prelims. But failed in Mains. I wish I had better preparation for my optional paper. Nevertheless, I appeared in the 2014 WBCS. Got selected in next three WBCS Exams.

  1. WBCS 2014: Got Revenue Officer in Group C. Rank was not great.

  2. WBCS 2015: got Joint BDO in Group C with a better Rank.

  3. WBCS 2016: got WB Co-operative Service in Group A.

Got married in February 2016 and became a father by December. Left Chennai in February 2017 to join as a Revenue Officer at Khargram Block, Murshidabad. Never joined the Joint BDO post as the result of 2016 was out by that time. In 2018 April, joined as Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies at Paschim Bardhaman Range at Asansol, my hometown.

After the results of WBCS 2016 Group A came in July 2017, I started receiving requests from many aspirants to guide them. CHESTA (Combined and Honest Effort to Support True Aspirants) was conceptualized as an informal learning group initially. Started its journey as a Facebook Group. When aspirants got success I experienced another level of satisfaction. I always loved learning and getting attached to academics. Knowing new things and spreading knowledge. Finally decided to choose the path of knowledge than becoming a successful bureaucrat. In July 2022, left my career as a Civil servant and moved to Kolkata. Now, in the process of making CHESTA a formal Institute helping aspirants in achieving their dreams.
